JOHN R PHILLIPS
Some time between 1850 and 1853, John Phillips and his wife, Rebecca Jane, left the Phillips family farm in Division 1, Sullivan County, Tennessee and homesteaded in Washington County, Arkansas — east of Hogeye and west of West Fork.
John Rudolph Philips
John Rudolph Phillips was born in 1824 on the unowned land that his parents worked and, in 1850, still worked alongside his father near Bluff City, south of Bristol. He was 26. Rebecca Jane, raised on a nearby farm, was 20.
John’s father, Edward Eli Phillips, lived on the same farm his entire life – from just after the Revolutionary War until 1880. His mother, Elizabeth, also lived in that part of Tennessee her whole life.
